Vegetarians beware

Last week Chase served "Orange Honey glazed potatoes" in addition to fish. I assumed the potatoes were vegetarian friendly because they had not been labels otherwise. However, after trying them I instantly spit them out due to the overwhelming taste of the wish they had been served alongside of. Even though I understand that it's unlikely the potatoes in fact contained fish products, I was still upset by the literal sensation that I was eating fish. A non-vegetarian friend confirmed the overwhelming taste, which didn't in the least resemble honey or orange. Although perhaps this couldn't have been avoided, I feel that the failure to keep vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals separate shows Aramark's lack of attention to a variety of dietary restrictions, and only further limits the options of those who follow them.

  1. To me, this is really upsetting. As a non-vegeatrian, I too struggle with finding healthy and tasty food options to eat on a regular biases here. It is really shocking to me that simple potatoes that are classified as a "friendly" choice to all students are made to taste like something it shouldn't. Come on, FISH!? I know Iv'e personally experienced my chicken tasting like pork or my beef tasting like cardboard in Chase or Emerson but I have never experienced something as absurd as this. If it was a bad batch, then it should go into the disposable food bucket and a new batch should be prepared. I feel like as students, we pay a lot of money for Aramark and our dining systems and while there are already so few options, the options that there are should be true to the descriptions of what the dish is. I know personally that I have spent so much money on going out to eat and on groceries this semester so I can avoid the dining hall food at all cost. This is upsetting because I have to pay for the meal plan even if i don't frequent it as often.

  2. I agree that this is completely ridiculous! Many times, I have taken unlabeled pasta with marinara sauce only to discover that there are tiny bits of ground beef in the sauce. Vegetarian options are already so limited that they really should make a better effort to keep the meals separate so we can take advantage as much as we can. Chase often puts the vegetarian options on a different table , but not always. It would be a much more effective system if they were kept separate not only for taste, but for consistency. Aramark also needs to work on their signage - options are frequently mislabeled or not labeled all together.
