An Off Campus Breakfast Alternative

We all love Sabatino’s, but where can a Wheaton student go off campus for breakfast? I personally think that breakfast is one of the better meals served on campus, but sometimes it’s nice to have more options. My friends and I stumbled upon The Breakfast Place in Attleboro while searching reviews on Yelp. Just a ten minute drive down Route 123, The Breakfast Place knows how to get creative while promoting the use of local ingredients. There are chalk boards all around the restaurant that list the specials, and the farms around Massachusetts that supply the ingredients. They serve cage free eggs, grass-fed beef, and locally roasted coffee.
In addition to promoting the Slow Food Movement, one of the best things about the Breakfast Place is the atmosphere. It has a diner-like atmosphere, with retro booths and historical posters and photographs on the walls. The customers are a mix of college students, families with small children, and elderly couples – contributing to the family atmosphere. The small staff is very friendly and love having a conversation with you. The mugs that they serve coffee and hot chocolate in (pictured below) have advertisements for local businesses on them, in keeping with the restaurant’s promotion of everything local.

And did I mention that the food is incredible? My friend ordered raspberry and white chocolate pancakes (pictured above) and they were definitely the best pancakes I’ve ever had. They even have plenty of gluten-free options, if that’s your thing. Local, fresh ingredients are not only ethically better, but they taste infinitely better as well. All Wheaton students should be aware of this local gem and support its mission.

  1. This diner you recommended looks really cozy for anyone who wants to grab a refreshing bite of breakfast. Although I have to say it's so hard to get around without a car in the US, especially in a small town like Norton, which has kinda swept me into a storm of nostalgia of what I'm used to at home going anywhere for any purposes within walking distance for the densely populated city/town structure, this could be the second (oops) diner I'm about to visit in the States, and the healthy menu shown above resembles that of a slow dim sum morning tea!

  2. This is one of many great local places near campus that I don't think many students know about. One of the fun things about supervising student workers is introducing them to some of these places at the end of a big project, etc. I might as well be taking them across the world.

I live on campus like you all do, but I have completely different foodways. Is that because I am older? Have a kid? A full time job? Because I am not a college student? All of the above? I'm not sure! But if you guys have thoughts or would like some other restaurant recommendations, let me know.

  3. After your recommendation, I checked out The Breakfast Place this past weekend. I was surprised to find that it exceeded my expectations and some! Most restaurants that boast "local foods" tend to be expensive and have a fancy feel to them. What I liked about The Breakfast Place was that it had all of the characteristics and the feel of the everyday diner food that I grew up with. I think we need more places like this that promote local foods that are not too expensive- just your common everyday food. I also appreciated their accommodations for people with food allergies. An added bonus!
